HISTORY BEHIND NEWARK P.B.A. LOCAL #3

In 1896, the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association was founded by five New Jersey Police Departments.
Members of the Paterson Police Department, Hoboken Police Department, Newark Police Department, Jersey City Police Department, and the Elizabeth Police Department came together to form the largest police labor organization in the State of New Jersey.
Today, that organization is now governed by the New Jersey State PBA and consists of over 33,000 active members across the state with more than 300 Local Chapters.
As a founding member, the Newark PBA has the honor of being designated the third Local Chapter in the State of New Jersey.
The Newark PBA Local #3 has a goal to be dedicated to our members at all times and ensure that we stay united with the NJ State PBA.
There is strength in numbers and there is no other police labor organization larger than the PBA in the State of New Jersey.
The Newark PBA Local #3 has worked hard for the men and women of the Newark Police Department since its inception and will continue to do so.
We have worked with the City of Newark, the Community and other fraternal police organizations to ensure that police officers in the City of Newark are recognized for the generous contributions that they make each and everyday.
Together, with the NJ State PBA we will continue to fight for better salaries, benefits, and working conditions for the men and women in blue across the State of New Jersey.
